She is Kit's best friend and she is a caring young girl who is also sympathetic of people around her and dedicated. The time period is 1934 and the place is Cincinnati where families are still struggling over job losses during the Great Depression. Since Ruthie is such a compassionate girl she tries to find ways to help Kit's family that is having difficult financial times.Ruthie was a recent addition to the American Girl collection, being added in 2008.
